Permanent Galleries - Ashmolean Museum Egyptian Galleries

DHA Designs were involved in the second phase of redevelopment of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.  The six Egyptian Galleries cover one of the Museum’s most popular visitor attractions.  It was a challenging project as the available energy was limited but by proving the effectiveness of DHA Designs’ successful LED solution, the Museum are considering applying this approach to many of their other galleries.  

The space is dominated by the central ceiling over the Taharqa Shrine, previously painted black.  Rick Mather Architects had this ceiling restored to its former glass block design and we specified a series of asymmetric fluorescents in the shallow void above to create a daylight effect.  At night when the space is used for corporate events, a blue fluorescent option is available.  This is complimented by careful spot and case lighting below.
